Abdelrhim Eltijani, BSc (Hons), MSc, PhD

“If the nineteenth century taught us that the present explains the past, the twenty-first century is teaching us that the past may be our most reliable guide to the future.”

About

A field sedimentologist turned quantitative geoscientist, I work where sedimentology, palaeoclimate, data science and Earth-system analysis meet.

What drives it is a simple observation: decisions made within a single lifetime can shape environments for thousands of years. Sediment archives extend our view of floods, coasts and pollution far beyond the few decades of instrumental records, and sound planning needs that longer view.

Consulting and collaboration

I am open to selected consulting and collaborative projects where quantitative sediment and data analysis can help. Possible partners include environmental consultancies, engineering and energy companies, public agencies, NGOs and research groups.

Sediment and grain-size analysis

Grain-size statistics and end-member modelling with SPEMM, the open-source framework I developed, for sediment cores and outcrops.

Geoscience data analysis

Compositional data analysis, wavelet and change-point methods applied to sediment and palaeoclimate records.

Teaching and training

Short courses or guest lectures on grain-size analysis, compositional data and SPEMM, drawing on six years of university teaching.
